Leading E-Commerce Website Promoting Suicides?

New Delhi: Suicide cases are increasing rapidly around the world, including India. In the race to differentiate themselves from the crowd, people are also committing their suicides in a unique way. The reason is that people search the Internet too to find new ways of suicide. In such a situation, people searching for suicide on the internet are being offered help from the e-commerce company.

Help is being offered by e-commerce company Amazon.com to those wishing to commit suicide or those searching on the internet about it. According to the news agency Reuters, the Amazon company is also considering Issuing helpline numbers for users who search for Suicide on its website. This information was given to Reuters by the company itself on Thursday.

Suicide Search in the US
Currently searching on the company's website about Suicide, users are suggested to search for the hanging noose and other harmful products. As a result of a Suicide (self-immolation) search conducted on Amazon in the US last week, internet users were shown the option of Suicide Kits (Suicide Kit) and Nooses (Nanda).

Suicide Search in India
Searching Suicide on Amazon's website in India also shows you many options like sleeping pills, pesticides and books like 'How to Summit Suicide' and 'Kings of Poisons' (King of Poisons). The special thing is that poisonous medicines and pesticides are also available on the website, which is not easily or unofficially available in the market.

In such a case, complaints against Amazon company and regulatory scrutiny of technical companies (Regulatory Scrutiny) are increasing rapidly. Due to this, the company is also facing many challenges. Merchants selling such goods are prohibited and listed illegal items for sale on the company's website. After the matter came to light in international media, security agencies and regulatory investigations, the Amazon company has reduced the How To Summit Suicide book and the hanging noose in the search results. According to the company, it prohibits merchants from selling non-media products on its website that promote or glorify suicide.

To avoid the ban, Amazon is considering issuing helpline numbers for those searching Suicide on its website. Social media platforms such as Google, Facebook and Twitter have already released helpline numbers to help people searching for suicides and save their lives. In recent months, violent and dangerous content on social media platforms has been scrutinized. There is already a dispute around the world about the issue of promoting suicide through the Internet. Now the names of well-known e-commerce companies have also started getting involved in such controversies. In the case, the Amazon company says that it takes feedback from its consumers on the products. For this, an option has been given to register the response below the detail page of each item. Here any consumer can express their concern or complaint about the product. According to the company, it plans to add a suicide helpline (National Suicide Prevention Lifeline of America) with details of some products. Through this, customers will be informed that free and confidential help can be obtained from organizations like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

The Amazon company told the news agency that this message will be seen on a search related to suicide in the coming weeks. From next week, descriptions of books and other products related to suicide in the United States and the United Kingdom will appear on the pages. It is expected that in addition to the US, Amazon will show the helpline number of that country on suicide-related searches in other countries including India.
