International Labor Day began in Chicago in May of 1886 in the United States. Gradually it spread to many countries of the world. India has not been untouched by this. Labor Day was celebrated for the first time on May 1, 1923, in India. For the first time, Labor Day was organized by the Labor Farmer Party of India. During this time the red flag was used which displays the working class. Labor Day is celebrated in support of the workers' respect, their unity, and their rights. On the occasion of Labor Day, there is a holiday in more than 80 countries of the world.

On this occasion people associated with labor organizations take out the rally and raise voice for their rights too. The special thing is that May Day is celebrated in many countries of the world in the form of ancient spring festival also.

Labor Day is known as Labor Day, Kamgar Day, and International Labor Day. At the same time, Labor Day is celebrated in America officially on the first Monday of September. However, May Day began with America only. In May 1886, 2 lakh laborers had organized a nation-wide strike on the demand of 8 hours work on May Day. During the strike, there was a blast in Chicago's Hay Market, after which the police fired on the laborers. Seven workers died in the incident.

Then a large number of laborers used to work in the 12-12 hour-long shift for seven days and the salaries were also low. Children too had to work in difficult situations. In the US, children were forced to work in factory, quarry and farm in poor condition.

After this, the workers started pressurizing their performances to increase salaries and reduce working hours. In 1889 the International General Assembly met in Paris. During this time the proposal was passed that International Labor Day will be celebrated in all the countries.
