Indian Grandmaster Koneru Hampi's dream of winning the second title at the World Women's Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship was shattered due to defeat in the final three rounds. At the end of the two-day blitz competition, she finishes at 12th place. Katrina Lagno of Russia and Magnus Karlsson of Norway retained their titles in the Women's and Men Blitz Championships respectively. Hampi, who won the World Women's Rapid Chess Championship by drawing Armageddon match against Li Tingji of China on Saturday, was at second place with seven points after nine rounds on the first day. But this 32-year-old player could not maintain her rhythm and eventually managed to score 10.5 in 17 games.

Hampi and Lagno had the same ten points after the 13th round. After this, in the 14th round, the Indian player played a draw against Russia's Alisa Galiyamova and she slipped to second place.

Hampi, who was out of the game from 2016 to 2018, lost the last three games and was eliminated from the title race. Another Indian Harika Dronavalli finished 25th in the women's blitz competition. Lagno won the title by scoring 13 points out of a possible 17. Ukraine's Anna Muzychuk finished second with 12.5 points.
