Kolkata: Bhowanipore by-election will be held on September 30

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition related to the Bhawanipore by-poll and ordered the polling to be held on September 30, the scheduled date. Let us inform you that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is standing in the by-election from this seat. BJP has fielded Priyanka Tibrewal against him from here. A division bench of Additional Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice R Bhardwaj said it was unfair on the part of the Chief Secretary of West Bengal to write a letter appealing to the Election Commission to hold the bypoll in Bhowanipore.

Contesting from the Bhowanipore seat

The court dismissed the PIL challenging the language used for the by-elections. The chief secretary had said in the letter that if the Bhowanipore by-election was not held, a "constitutional crisis" would arise. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting from the Bhowanipore seat.
