Sidhu has been making headlines with his rebellious voices. Navjot Singh Sidhu entered politics in 2004. His career in sports also did not stay away from controversies. Cricket lovers will remember that during the 1996 tour of England, Navjot Singh Sidhu returned to the country midway after rebelling against captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

Navjot Singh Sidhu reached Parliament in 2004 after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar on a BJP ticket. At that time an old case was going on against him. Patiala resident Gurnam Singh is accused of assault during a parking dispute. In the Supreme Court, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley appeared for Sidhu and was granted bail. Sidhu made Arun Jaitley his mentor in his political innings. In 2014, when BJP fielded Arun Jaitley as its candidate from here, Sidhu announced that he would not contest. The ambitious Sidhu then rebelled. He did not reach Amritsar to campaign for his political mentor Arun Jaitley.

Resigned from Rajya Sabha after 3 months

Sidhu, who once recited songs in the glory of Bikram Singh Majithia and Sukhbir Badal, started criticizing them fiercely. This behavior of his had put the then BJP President Kamal Sharma in a lot of trouble. Sidhu has on several occasions targeted the Akali Dal on issues like corruption, cable mafia, mining mafia. At the same time, BJP leaders also started wrapping them. Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu was then the Chief Parliamentary Secretary. Sidhu became a Rajya Sabha MP in April 2016 but he tendered his resignation three months later.

Formed the Awaaz-e-Punjab Forum

Since then, discussions had started in the political corridors that Navjot Sidhu would now join the Aam Aadmi Party. He will be the chief minister's face in the state. In contrast, he had joined the Congress a few weeks before the 2017 assembly elections. Earlier he had formed the Awaaz-e-Punjab Forum, which also included the Bains brothers and Pargat Singh.

Became cabinet minister in 2017

In 2017 the Congress party came to power in Punjab and Sidhu became a cabinet minister. After a few months, he expressed his displeasure over the election of the mayor of Amritsar and Sidhu started a rebellion against the Captain, then proposed to create a corporation for entertainment tax and sand mining on the cable network, which was rejected.

Resigned even after changing the ministry

In 2019, Captain Amarinder Singh changed Sidhu's ministry. In protest, Sidhu resigned without taking office. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had sent an invitation to Navjot Singh Sidhu to take the oath. Captain Amarinder Singh appealed to Sidhu not to attend the ceremony but Sidhu reached Pakistan via the Wagah border.

He also hugged Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa on the offer to open the Kartarpur Corridor there. Amarinder Singh's government was badly surrounded on this issue. While campaigning for the Congress in Telangana, Sidhu had said that even Captain Amarinder Singh has Captain Rahul Gandhi. Sidhu's statement was heavily criticized in the Punjab Congress.

 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Sidhu did not appear much in the campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but he campaigned in Bathinda at the behest of Priyanka Gandhi. After a long wait, when Sidhu increased his activism in the party, he was made the state president. During this, Captain Amarinder Singh strongly opposed Sidhu. After becoming the president, Sidhu again raised his voice against the captain and the ruckus increased so much that Amarinder Singh had to resign. After changing the CM and becoming the state president, it seemed that Sidhu would now work strongly towards the party but suddenly surprised everyone by resigning.
