Kedarnath Dham: It Doesn’t seem that Seven Years ago there will be such Devastation

The disaster in June 2013 in Kedarnath Dham, located in Rudraprayag district, at an altitude of 11 thousand 657 feet above sea level, caused great devastation.  Due to heavy rains in the high Himalayas for three consecutive days, the Chorabari Tal erupted three km above Kedarnath.  This inauguration not only took the lives of 4700 pilgrims from various states, but also endangered the existence of the entire Kedarghati.  Rambara town located on the Kedarnath walkway was not even saved, while hundreds of houses, hotels, Dharamshalas etc. were washed away in many places.  But under the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the situation changed gradually and today Kedarpuri has come out in a new form.

 80 percent of the Kedarnath walking route was covered in the flood

Large-scale reconstruction works were started in collaboration with the Nehru Mountaineering Institute (Nim) by transporting heavy-weight Pokaland, JCB, Dunfer etc. to Kedarpur by Air Force Mi-26 helicopter. The way the yatra has created new records in the past years, it does not seem that there will be such devastation seven years ago. Construction of meditation caves on the hill of Kedarnath. But even today, the soul trembles after remembering that dreadful scene of the disaster of 16-17 June 2013.   There were more than 300 shops of the local people, while 40 to 70 percent of Kedarnath Dham, Gaurikund, Sonprayag, Chandrapuri, Vijayaganagar and Sumadi towns and about 80 percent of the Kedarnath walking route including Gaurikund Highway were covered in the flood. In this disaster, Rambara Chatti on the Kedarnath walkway was eradicated.  About 400 crore has been spent so far on the reconstruction work in Dham, which makes the picture of Kedarpuri completely changed today. Local youths were linked with employment by allocating shops on Kedarnath walking route.  Construction of Brahma Vatika at Kedarnath to accommodate seven thousand pilgrims in Kedarnath Dham.
