Kartarpura Corridor Agreement might Not get Signed Tomorrow

The agreement on the much awaited Kartarpur Corridor between India and Pakistan is not likely to be signed on Wednesday. The first agreement was signed between the two countries on 23 October. Sources said that the agreement will be signed on Thursday instead of Wednesday. It is notable that India said on Monday that it is ready to sign an agreement with Pakistan on October 23 for the operation of the Kartarpur corridor. It also asked Pakistan to reconsider the decision to charge a service fee of $ 20 per pilgrim.

Sources said that the agreement between India and Pakistan on the Kartarpur corridor is unlikely to be signed tomorrow.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of External Affairs had said in a statement that the government has taken steps to open the Kartarpur Sahib corridor on the auspicious occasion of the 550th Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev so that pilgrims from India and people holding Pravasi Bharatiya Card are in Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan can travel.

After a long wait, it was agreed to open the Kartarpur corridor, but the charges between the two have not been agreed. "It is a matter of disappointment that Pakistan is insisting on levying a service fee of $ 20 per pilgrim despite agreeing on a number of issues to facilitate the pilgrimage to India," the ministry said. He said that the government has consistently requested Pakistan that it should not charge such a fee, respecting the wishes of the pilgrims.
