Japan: 568 New Cases of Coronavirus were Reported, Total Number of Cases Reached 10361

The Japanese Ministry of Health reported on Sunday that a day earlier 568 new cases of coronavirus were reported, taking the total number of domestic cases to 10,361.  A total of 11,073 cases involving 712 others were reported from a cruise ship near Tokyo earlier this year, with 174 deaths.  The number of cases is still relatively small compared to the US and Europe.

The first case was detected in Japan in mid-January, with cases taking two months to reach 1,000, but the spread of infection has accelerated in recent weeks and the number has doubled from about 5,000 in just 10 days.

Experts have noted that their strategy of going after clusters to detect infections is no longer effective to deal with growing cases and more trials are needed.  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday extended the state of emergency, which was limited to six other urban areas in Japan and all regions of Japan, with concerns that the virus could be spread across the country, but in hospitals  Already the number of patients has increased. Japan has finally begun to establish additional testing centers in Tokyo and elsewhere, allowing primary care doctors to send suspected patients directly to testing centers, rather than through public health centers. Check eligibility, many people were delayed in testing and treatment.
