Jammu and Kashmir: 14 Terrorists Killed in Last 4 Days

Five militants were killed in an encounter on Wednesday by security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. With this, the security forces have killed 14 terrorists in the last four days. A police official said that the area was cordoned off and search operations were carried out in the morning after receiving accurate information about the presence of militants in Sugu area of ​​Shopian in south Kashmir.

He said that the militants started firing on the security forces, after which the encounter started. Two militants were killed in the initial encounter and three more militants were killed by the security forces till the final report was received. It should be noted that this is the third major encounter in Shopian in four days. Nine Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in two encounters by security forces on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, lauding the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and Army, the 15th Corps General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lt Gen BS Raju had said that the operation was conducted smoothly and there was no loss of civilian property during this period.

Lieutenant General BS Raju said on Monday that 100 local and 25 foreign terrorists are active in South Kashmir. He further said, "We can give a figure of roughly 100 local terrorists seen so far and maybe there are 20-25 foreign terrorists who are eyeing us."
