The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction is expected to be held on February 11. The IPL Governing Council has asked all 8 franchises to submit the list of the retained and released players by Wednesday. At the same time, CSK may release few players from the squad before the auctions, as the team finished 7th in the points table.
According to media reports, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is all set to release veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and opener Murali Vijay, while the team is also planning to release Suresh Raina and Kedar Jadhav. CSK can bid on any opener in search of replacement for Shane Watson.
RR likely to release Steve Smith:
The Rajasthan Royals are set to release their captain Steve Smith before the 2021 IPL auction. The franchise will take a final decision on this soon. According to media reports, one of the major reasons behind considering the release of Smith is that his form in the 13th edition of the tournament has not been good, where the Royals finished last in the league of eight teams. Smith played all 14 league matches for the team, scoring 311 runs at a strike rate of 131, including three half-centuries. The franchise management wanted the team to at least reach the playoffs. After winning the IPL title in the inaugural season in 2008, the Royals made it to the playoffs in 2013, 2015 and then in 2018.

Harbhajan Singh’s contract with CSK ended:
At the same time, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has confirmed his exit from CSK. Harbhajan Singh himself has informed about the end of his contract with CSK. The list of players released for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League is to be released on Wednesday evening.
Maximum and minimum players in a team:
All franchises can have a maximum of 25 and a minimum of 18 players in their team. At the same time, any team can have a maximum of 8 foreign players.
