IPL 2020: Team Franchises Held Tele-Conference regarding Impact of Coronavirus on Tournament

Due to the rising outbreak of Coronavirus, many sports are being affected all over the world. Many games have either been postponed or canceled. On the other hand, the audience of the world's most famous T20 league IPL can also get disappointment this year. The BCCI has already postponed this season of IPL starting from 29 March to 15 April and now there is news of cancellation of this season.

Let me tell you that eight franchisees of IPL held a conference call on Monday. A franchise official said, "Nothing special was discussed in Monday's meeting. This was just a general meeting. The situation has not changed in 48 hours, so it is not right to talk about the cancellation of IPL. We will have to wait and see. We will keep holding this conference on a weekly basis to know the situation."

At the same time, another franchise official said, 'Things are getting a bit worse due to Corona. Schools, colleges, malls, gyms, and theaters, etc. are all closed. In such a situation, it may also be that the league can be canceled for this season. In a meeting with BCCI, it was unanimously decided that security is first and we are together in such a situation. '

When asked if the franchisees were ready for the loss, the official said, "There is no other option. We will suffer a loss of Rs 15-20 crores, which will be due to salaries and other things. This money comes from successful organizing the league but there are some other losses too. There is insurance for things like tickets, but this is the kind of loss that franchises will have to bear if the league doesn't happen, but we know that nothing is more than human safety."

Let me tell you that on March 11, except for some officials, the visa of all those coming from abroad has been withheld till April 15. After this, suspense remains on the participation of foreign players in the IPL. The IPL has already been postponed. If the situation does not change then it may lead to cancellation of this year's season. But it is not so easy to cancel this tournament. According to reports, if the IPL is canceled, the BCCI will suffer a loss of 3,869 crores. This includes broadcast and streaming revenue of Rs. 3269 crores. Apart from this, there are also central sponsorships of Rs. 200 crores and title sponsorships of Rs. 400 crores.

If we talk about other losses, Star India bought IPL media rights for five years for Rs. 16,347 crores. Vivo paid Rs. 2,000 crores for title sponsorship for five years. Star had set a target of earning Rs. 3300 crore as ad revenue this year. In such a situation, it has a lot at stake.
