The first match of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and last year’s runner-up team Chennai Super Kings on 19 September. Shane Watson, a veteran batsman of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team, has claimed that the team can become the champion this time, as the team has both experience and quality.
CSK led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni had traveled to the finals in 2019. The team had to face defeat to Mumbai Indians on the last ball by just one run. At the same time, before the start of IPL 2020, the team has suffered a setback as the legendary players like Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh ruled out of the tournament.
CSK can win the title this time: Shane Watson
However, former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson has said that his team can win the title. Shane Watson said in a YouTube show, “Being an experienced team means that your players have a greater sense of being able to execute their skills under the pressure of the game. That’s why we believe that we have got a great opportunity to have a great season because of the quality of the players and the experience we have got.”
2018 season was one of my better seasons: Watson
Watson praised CSK’s ‘world-class’ leadership group during the ups and downs last season. He said, “The 2018 season was one of my better seasons, I scored a century in the final match, But last year, certainly CSK stuck with me through thick and thin. In every other team that I’ve been in, I may have been dropped a couple of games before I got the runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“Just them backing me, knowing my next few good innings were around the corner, (was amazing). Only world-class leaders will really stick by and have the confidence to do that, given the calibre of the players we’ve got.” Watson called it great learning. Let us tell you that Shane Watson did well in the last few matches. Even in the final of IPL 2019, he played a brilliant inning.
