Many games around the world have been canceled due to coronavirus. It has impacted IPL too. On 24 March, today, there was to be a conference call between the owners of IPL teams and BCCI. The conference call was supposed to be held between the board and IPL teams regarding the control of Coronavirus and then the commencement of IPL 2020, but due to the coronavirus epidemic and the current situation, the conference call has been postponed which may now happen later this week.
A BCCI official said, "The conference call which was to be held on the status of Coronavirus epidemic has been postponed for a week. The board will keep an eye on the situation this week and will then talk to the owners of the teams regarding IPL 2020."
The board official has said, "There is no question of taking calls in a personal capacity, it is just a matter of looking at the situation that the government is doing its best to fight the epidemic and now it has also imposed lockdown across the country." Earlier on Monday, a BCCI official said that it is not right to guess when the IPL will start. However, the official also said that if the situation is under control and the first match of IPL starts in the first week of May, then the IPL can be organized in full, but doubleheader matches will be more and it will be held in only one state.
After cancellation of the conference call, one thing has become clear that the IPL 2020 will not start from 15 April, as Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju has already announced that a new advisory will be issued on 15 April.
