The Taliban has gone on the offensive ever since the US announced the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan. When the fighters of the terrorist organization captured Kabul, the US had to shift its embassy to Kabul Airport. Not only this but 6000 additional forces were also sent for the security of the airport. According to a preliminary decision by President Joe Biden, US forces will withdraw from Afghanistan by August 31. Now the Taliban have threatened to face consequences if they do not do so.

Threat of Taliban

The Taliban has threatened the US with dire consequences if its forces continue beyond the August 31 deadline. The Taliban say that any delay in the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan will have consequences for the US. The terrorist organization is observing August 31 as a deadline. Earlier, US President Joe Biden had earlier said that his troops could remain in Kabul after August 31 to help evacuate civilians.

President Joe Biden says the difficult and painful task of airlifting Americans and thousands of others from the Afghan capital is progressing rapidly. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of running this campaign from the stressed country even after the deadline of August 31. Biden defended his decision to end the war at the White House on Sunday, insisting that getting all Americans out of the country would have been difficult under the best of circumstances.

Discussion on extending the deadline continues

Critics have criticized Biden for launching a late evacuation campaign. Biden said, 'The task of bringing back thousands of people from Kabul is going to be difficult and painful, whenever it starts. There was no way to evacuate so many people without the painful and heart-wrenching pictures being shown on television. Biden said military discussions were continuing on whether to extend the work to bring people back by air beyond the August 31 deadline. The military evacuated about 1700 passengers from Hamid Karzai International Airport in a span of 12 hours. In addition, 39 Alliance aircraft took off with around 3,400 passengers.
