India’s first engine-less train comes on track, on October 29
Country's first engine-less train, Train ,18 comes on track, this Monday,October 29 2018. Train 18 manufactured at ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in Chennai under 'Make in India' project. ICF Clarifies  that Train 18 set being imported and  will be manufactured at half the cost as of any similar train . Able to Running at a speed of up to 160 kmph,This train will have 16 chair-car type coaches  that are executive and non-executive. Maximum seating capacity of executive chair cars will be 56 passengers having two executive chair cars and 14 non-executive chair cars, and the maximum sitting capacity in non executive it will be 78.
It has a separate locomotive Driven by a self-propulsion module with special  technical features for fast access in its acceleration. It is Developed in 18 months  by the city-based Integral Coach Factory. Compared to the Shatabdi it consist of swanky 16-coach prototype without a locomotive (engine) which takes 15 percent less of the time of travelling.
It also cost nearly Rs 100 crore to build the prototype and subsequent production according to CF General Manager Sudhanshu Mani which takes less in its cost.
Train set as against a locomotive-hauled and there are no engine reversal requirements. According to ICF, train  gives the better on boarded utilization of space which is counted big advantage .
Been derived from the LHB stainless-steel coach design, it is enhanced with  power doors and retractable steps, Vacuum retention toilets attached, along with  sealed inter-car gangways.
