The terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) is constantly trying to mislead the Indian youth through social media. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday expressed concern over the growing activism of the terrorist organization. The NIA said that 168 people have been arrested so far in 37 terror attacks, and funding cases. All of them were inspired by the ideology of the Islamic State. According to an NIA spokesperson, charge sheets have been filed in 31 cases so far. The last charge sheet was filed in June.

Propaganda campaigns through online means

According to the spokesperson, the investigation has revealed that IS is running propaganda campaigns through online means to spread its footprint in India. This organization has not opened any recruitment center in the country, but through social media, it is continuously recruiting youth by brainwashing them. Youth are wooed through open social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Once a person shows interest he is prompted to interact with online handlers abroad using an encrypted social media platform. The NIA has appealed to the people to immediately bring to the notice of the agency if they see any such activity on the internet.

The NIA has also issued a hotline number for reporting any suspicious activity to IS. However, any such activity may be reported on 011-24368800. Cases like campaigning on social media or luring youth can be reported immediately on this number.

Upload radical material online

According to the probe agency, IS's online handlers use it to upload radical material online. Online material is uploaded after assessing how much brainwashed the person has been. Also, these youths have to be trained to translate IS books in the local language, plotting, preparing as a sleeping module, collecting weapons (IED) and advanced ammunition, preparing equipment, raising terror funding.

Raids on two Islamic State locations in Tamil Nadu

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at two places in Tamil Nadu and arrested an accused in a case related to Facebook posts. The investigating agency official said on Friday that Bava Bahru Din of Tiruvarur district was arrested by the NIA on Thursday. He said the case is registered in Madurai and is linked to Mohammad Iqbal. Mohammad used his Facebook account to upload posts defaming a particular community and promoting communal enmity between different religions.

Created multiple accounts on various social media platforms

According to the official, Iqbal, in the name of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, along with others including Bahru Din, hatched a conspiracy to re-establish Islamic State and implement Sharia law across the world including India. To further this conspiracy, he held closed-door meetings and had created multiple accounts to upload posts. These posts are uploaded with the intention of disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. Bahruddin conducted these meetings in the Madurai, Erode, Salem, and Tanjore districts of Tamil Nadu.

According to an NIA official, in the raids conducted on Thursday at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district and Mansoor Ali Thaikal in Tanjore district, objectionable literature and three digital devices related to Hizb-ut-Tahrir were seized. He said that further investigation is being done in the matter.
