Indian Railways: Preparations to Resume Train Services from April 15

Indian Railways has started preparations to resume operations of train services from 15 April.  The lockdown is in force in the country from 25 April, which will run till 14 April.  This has been said in a report by the news agency PTI.  This is quite a relief news for people who are stranded in other parts of the country and also waiting for the lockdown to return to their homes.  Sources said that all security personnel, guards, TTE and other officials associated with the railway have been asked to rejoin their posts from April 15.

According to sources, the Railways will conduct thermal screening of all passengers and follow all protocols along with it. Also, about 80 percent of trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto are planned to be run as per schedule,  the operation of local trains can also be started.

It is noteworthy that Indian Railways had earlier decided to stop operating all trains by 31 March.  After the lockdown was announced, it was extended to 14 April.  However, goods trains were operated during this period.

However, the trains will start operating only after getting the green signal from the government.  The government has formed a group of ministers to decide on the issue.  In the meantime, the Railways has handed over a 'plan to restart services' to all railway zones.  Information about the schedule of trains, their frequencies and the availability of rakes is given in this scheme.
