India's junior women's hockey team lost to hosts Australia in a match of the three-nation tournament played on Sunday. Australia beat India 1-2, but despite this, India won the tournament. India, of course, lost in the last match, but despite being on top of the points table, they became the winner. The Indian team scored a total of seven points in four matches. Although Australia also had seven points in four matches, India got the top position due to better goal difference. In the final match, Gagandeep Kaur scored the only goal for India.
In the last match played between India and Australia, the Australian team gave a lead in the 15th minute by Abigail Wilson's goal. Abigail then scored another goal in the 56th minute to lead Australia 2–1, which proved to be the deciding score. The Indian team was kept under constant pressure by the hosts in the first quarter. India got some chances in the first 15 minutes but the team could not take advantage of them.
Australia got their first penalty corner of the match in the 15th minute which Abigail converted into a goal to put the hosts ahead 1-0. India tried to equalize in the second quarter but Indian team failed to penetrate the defense of Australia. India got two penalty corners in the 22nd and 26th minutes but the team could not convert them into goals. Two minutes later, Australia had a chance to double their lead at the penalty stroke, but Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam made a superb defense to save India from a 0-2 loss.
In the third quarter also, both teams failed to convert the penalty corner. India put Australia under pressure in the fourth quarter. The team benefited from this in the 53rd minute as a penalty corner. Gagandeep then scored a goal to make 1-1. After this, the host team took a 2–1 lead with Abigail's goal. Although efforts were made to score goals for India in the last moments of the match, but there was no success. India tried their best to score in the final moments but did not succeed.
