In Chhattisgarh's Korba district, a case of tying up and thrashing two people on charges of attempted theft in a coal mine area has come to light. According to information received from the local police, four people, including two security guards of a private company, allegedly tied two people to poles and beat them breathless with sticks, alleging theft. Now a video of this incident is going viral
In a video that went viral on social media on Monday, both the victims can be seen purportedly tied separately under a tin shed. Along with this, they are being beaten with sticks. In the clip, the clothes of the middle-aged man being beaten up are torn and he can be heard screaming and begging for mercy.
The district administration, which swung into action after the video went viral, has ordered an inquiry into the incident. On the other hand, on the basis of the victim's complaint and video received in this regard, three out of the four accused involved in the incident have been arrested.
According to the complaint, the victims have been identified as Subhash Ram Siddar (55) and Hira Bahadur (40), who are natives of Korba town. In charge of the Kusmunda police station, Liladhar Rathore said that both the victims were stopped by the four accused near a railway crossing in the Kusmunda coal mine area on September 17. The victims were returning home after witnessing the rituals of 'Vishwakarma Puja' from a mine.
Two of the accused were private security guards of a company engaged in construction work in the mining area, while two others were his associates. The accused blamed Subhash and Heera for trying to steal iron articles from the mine. When both denied the allegation, they allegedly tied them separately and thrashed them mercilessly with sticks.
Sidar lodged a complaint in the Kusmunda police station the next day, following which the police swung into action. The accused were identified on the basis of the video of the incident and three of them, Rajesh Singh Rajput (53), Govardhan Kumar Sahu (29), and Ashok Kumar Kashyap (46), were arrested. The SHO said that the search for the fourth accused is on.
He said that the accused have been charged with relevant sections of the IPC and further investigation is on. Meanwhile, Korba Collector Ranu Sahu on Monday constituted a three-member committee of officers to probe the incident and asked the panel to submit its report within seven days.
