A meeting has been called today under the leadership of Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to show opposition solidarity against the Centre. 15 teams will participate in the meeting. The meeting will be held virtually at 5 pm.

Upcoming Lok Sabha elections

In fact, Mamta Banerjee had visited Delhi earlier this month, during the Delhi tour, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met many other leaders including Sonia Gandhi.

After meeting the opposition leaders, Mamta Banerjee had told the Center that the opposition is not as weak as the government is understanding. The Mamata-Sonia meeting had made it clear that the opposition parties are planning to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together.

The main objective of this meeting is to further strengthen the opposition unity. At the same time, during the recent monsoon session, the way opposition surrounded the government on other issues including the Pegasus scandal, farmers' agitation, inflation in the House, Modi, and the anti-BJP parties came closer to each other.

The proceedings of the House were continuously disrupted due to the opposition uproar. Better coordination was established in this regard among other opposition parties including Congress. At the same time, under the leadership of Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha, a new look of opposition was seen. Apart from this, the presence of Rahul Gandhi was also important in uniting the opposition in both houses.
