ISIS / ISIL / Daesh helper Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Bengaluru. Muhammad Tauqir, a resident of Bengaluru, was arrested on Saturday. He is facing charges of conspiracy in the ISIS/ISIL/Daesh case.
The National Investigation Agency has made a big disclosure about Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood. The NIA has said that Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood along with some other people raised money to promote terrorism and radicalization. He linked gullible Muslim youth to the Quran Circle Group and illegally sent them to Syria to join ISIS.
Mahmood, Zuhab Hameed, Irfan Naseer, and Mohd Shihab have been booked under sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). However, they were arrested for having links with banned outfit ISIS, an NIA official said.
During the investigation, NIA had earlier arrested two accused Ahmed Abdul Qadir and Irfan Naseer, against whom the charge sheet was filed in April, the official said. Also, he said that Mahmood, along with co-accused, raised funds and recruited innocent Muslim youth by seduction. Then he was sent to Syria to join ISIS.
Muhammad Tauqir is a Computer Analyst and Dentist. In the year 2013-14, he had sent at least 6-7 Muslim youths from Bengaluru to Syria to help the terrorist organization ISIS, which has become synonymous with terror. In the year 2020, Mahmood Tauqir Mahmood was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against his partner Zuhaib Hameed alias Shakeel Manna.
Mahmood and Hameed first lived in Bengaluru, but later shifted to Saudi Arabia. However, he came in contact with terrorist organizations through a childhood friend living in Saudi Arabia. After the arrest of Bengaluru-based ophthalmologist Abdur Rahman (28) on 17 August 2020, it was revealed that many youths were sent to Syria in the year 2013-14.
