The impact of India's new IT law on social media companies is starting to show. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has blocked two million Indian accounts with objectionable content till Thursday. The company has given this information in its first compliance (intermediary) report.

According to the company, between May 15 and June 15 this year, 20 lakh accounts in India have been frozen, while it has received 345 complaints of complaints during this period. The company clarified that more than 95% of such restrictions have been imposed due to inappropriate use of automated or bulk messaging (spam). WhatsApp reported that the number of blocked accounts has increased since 2019. The company's advanced systems are helping to detect more such accounts.

It is mandatory to give information under the new rules

Explain that under the new information technology rules, it has been made mandatory for social media companies to submit this report. Under the new rules, major digital platforms with more than 5 million users are required to publish compliance reports every month. In this report, it is necessary for such companies to mention the complaints received by them and the action to be taken on them.

The new IT minister also warned

Earlier, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had given a big statement amid the ongoing tussle with Twitter over the new law. He had said that every company operating in India should follow the laws of India. Ashwini Vaishnav has bluntly said that if anyone works in India further, he will have to follow the law of the country. Let us inform that Ashwini Vaishnav has taken over as the IT Minister on the previous day (July 7). He has been given this responsibility in place of Ravi Shankar Prasad.
