Today is a big day for the Indian Army. On January 15, the Indian Army will commemorate its 74th Army Day. Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa took command of the Indian Army from General Francis Butcher on this day in 1949. The last British Commander-in-Chief of India was Francis Butcher. At the same time, after taking command of the army, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa became the Indian Army's first Commander-in-Chief. Every year, this day is observed as 'Army Day' to commemorate Cariappa's appointment as the top commander of the Indian Army.

On the Day of the Indian Army Every year, army parades are held in all of the army's command headquarters and in the national capital, along with numerous other military events. On this day, a salute is paid to all the valiant warriors who gave their all to protect the motherland and preserve the nation's integrity. Every year on Army Day, a parade is held at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment. This salute is given to the Chief of the Indian Army. The 70th Army Day was celebrated in 2018, with General Bipin Rawat taking the parade salute, and General MM Naravane taking the salute in 2019. On 15 January 2019, the 71st Indian Army Day was observed in the national capital of Delhi.

A female officer will lead an army contingent in the Army Day Parade for the first time in history. Lt Bhavana Kasturi is the first woman to command a contingent of 144 male officers. On the occasion of Army Day 2019, the Indian Army also held a painting, photography, video making, and slogan writing competition. The winners' presentations were broadcast on the Indian Army's Facebook page, and they were also given cash prizes.

K.M. Cariappa was born in the Karnataka district of Coorg in 1899. Field Marshal Cariappa joined the British Indian Army, and during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1947, he led the army along the western border. At the same time, during the partition of India and Pakistan, K.M. Cariappa was entrusted with the responsibility of dividing the armies of both countries. Cariappa retired in 1953, and in 1986, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.

Actually, Field Marshal is the highest rank in the Indian Army. This post is actually given as an honor. Only two people have received this honor in the history of the Indian Army. The first is Sam Manekshaw, who was appointed in 1973, and the second is K.M. Cariappa, who was appointed to this position in 1986.

The Territorial Army (TA) is an Indian Army unit. All Indian citizens between the ages of eighteen and forty-two who are physically capable, from general labor to civil servant, are eligible to apply. This is our second line of defense. In times of war, it is also used for deployment on the front lines. Every year, the volunteers of the Territorial Army receive a few days of military training so that their services can be called upon to defend the country if necessary.

The Territorial Army was established in India in October 1949, according to the Territorial Army Act – 1948, which was passed by the Constituent Assembly of India in September 1948. Its mission is to assume responsibility for internal security during times of crisis and to provide support to the regular army as needed, giving young people the opportunity to serve their country part-time.

Only Indian citizens are eligible to join the Territorial Army. This is a way for ordinary Indians to join the army as volunteers. There is no age relaxation for anyone in a reserved category. To join the Territorial Army, you must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Graduation can be accomplished in any field.

In 2012, Rajasthan's deputy chief minister, Sachin Pilot, was also commissioned as a lieutenant in the Territorial Army. He was the first minister to make such a statement. Citizens who join the Territorial Army are subjected to rigorous training for a limited time in order to become capable soldiers.
