The Supreme Court also allowed the central government to make farmers a party in this case and fixed October 4 for the next hearing of the case. In an earlier hearing, the top court had said that it was not concerned with the legality of the agricultural laws against which farmers are protesting, but because of the inconvenience caused to the people due to the sit-in and the lack of traffic. Roads should not be closed like this.

This hearing in the Supreme Court was held on a petition, which said that due to the movement of farmers on the border, there is a big problem of movement and hence the roads should be opened. The Haryana government had also filed an affidavit in the matter in the apex court. Efforts were on to remove the protesting farmers from the highway and all efforts were being made to persuade them to remove them from the road.
