There may be a power crisis in your house in the coming days as there are only four days of coal stock left in the country. According to the Ministry of Energy, coal storage in coal-based power generation stations have become very low. Let us tell you that 70 percent of the electricity generation in the country comes from coal. According to the information, out of a total of 135 thermal power plants, 72 have coal reserves of less than three days. While there are 50 power plants with a stock of coal for 4 to 10 days.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Energy, one reason for the power crisis is also the Corona period, in which other offices work. During this Corona time, people used electricity fiercely. The second reason is the goal of providing electricity to every household, due to which the demand for electricity has increased significantly. According to the data of the Ministry of Power, the total consumption of electricity in August-September 2019 was 10 thousand 660 crore units per month. In 2021, this figure has gone up to 12 thousand 420 crore units per month.
According to the sources, due to heavy rainfall, coal is not being extracted due to waterlogging in the mines. The coal crisis has arisen not only in UP but in the whole country. In power stations where coal stocks are less, production has been reduced so that there is no need to shut down the units completely. Electricity generation in UP has come down by about 2000 MW. Officials say that since the demand is not very high, the situation is under control. But, the demand is likely to increase in the coming festive season starting from Navratri this week.
In the month of August-September of 2021, the consumption of coal has gone up by 18 percent as compared to 2019. India has huge reserves of coal, but it has been badly affected by increasing consumption. Apart from this, India imports coal from countries like Indonesia, Australia, and America. The biggest thing is that the coal price has tripled.
Due to the shortage of coal in China, people were asked to reduce the consumption of electricity. This series started ten days ago. First, power plants in Zhejiang province were told to shut down production 24 hours a day, every three days. For this reason shopping malls, cinema halls, bars, etc. were directed to reduce their working hours and switch off the heating system. This news has been published by the Chinese academic journal Economic Weekly. Later, other news media of China also reported this on the same basis. Now the same situation is arising in India as well.
