Smriti had written in the affidavit that she had done Bachelor of Art from Delhi University's School of Correspondence in 1996.

Union Minister Smriti Irani, who was contesting the Lok Sabha election against Congress president Rahul Gandhi at Amethi seat in an affidavit given to the EC on Thursday, said that she is not a 'Graduate'. This is for the first time when he clearly wrote in his election affidavit that he did not complete a three year degree course.

In the affidavit given to the Election Commission (EC), Smriti Irani wrote in the highest education column: 'Bachelor of Commerce Part-1' from Delhi University's School of Open Learning (correspondence). This course is the year of the year she wrote 1994. This means that they started this degree course this year but did not complete it. she has written in the table that 'three-year degree course is incomplete'. According to the affidavit, Irani passed the high school in 1991, passed the Intermediate examination in 1993.

Prior to this, during the first election of the Amethi seat in 2014, Smriti Irani wrote in the affidavit that in 1994, she did a Bachelor of Commerce Part-1 from the University of Delhi School of Open Learning (correspondence). In 2004, during the election of Congress leader Kapil Sibal against Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency in Delhi, Smriti had written in the affidavit that she had done Bachelor of Art from Delhi University's School of Correspondence in 1996.

Rajya Sabha member Smriti Irani's profile says that she was educated at Delhi's Holy Child's Exilim and was taking education from the Delhi School of Correspondence of Delhi University. Other opposition parties, including the Congress, have been accused of giving contradictory information about their education to Smriti Irani.
