India has Most Complaints from China’s TikTok

China's short-video making platform TikTok received complaints on the global platform as fast as it gained popularity. Complaints were filed against some accounts of this video making platform on behalf of India, US and Japan. Among those who complained, India topped the list, followed by the United States and Japan.

In the first 6 months (January 1-June 30, 2019) of the year 2019, a total of 118 requests were sent from India for action on some accounts. It is surprising that there was no such request from China.

TikTok is known by another name in China, Douyin. While there are 107 legitimate requests, the Government of India sought information about 11 accounts and sought to remove content that violated local law. Tick Talk, which has around 200 million users in India, took action on 47 per cent cases and canceled 8 accounts on the request of the Government of India.

After India, America was second with 79 requests. The US had made 79 requests related to 255 accounts, of which it was reported on 86 percent. At number three was Japan, which entered 35 requests related to 39 accounts.

Globally, TikTok was downloaded about 1.5 billion times. TikTok Public Policy Chief Eric Ebenteen said, "Keeping our responsibilities balanced against the law enforcement and privacy of users, we have only responded to the legally appropriate request and only provided information as needed."
