India Becomes Fastest Country to Administer 17 Crore Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine

India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 17 crore doses as phase-3 of the nationwide vaccination drive expands further, the central government said on Monday. With this, India has become the fastest country globally to administer more than 17 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses. At the same time, China took 119 days, while the US took 115 days to reach this figure.

The mass vaccination drive in India was started on 16 January. Meanwhile, the vaccination of health workers and frontline workers was started from 2 February. As of 7 am today, 17,01,76,603 people have been vaccinated under 24,70,799 sessions in the country.

10 states account for 66.79 percent of total vaccination:

The total vaccination administered includes 95,47,102 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who took the first dose and 64,71,385 Healthcare who took the second dose. Meanwhile, 1,39,72,612 Frontline Workers (FLWs) took the first dose. 77,55,283 frontline workers were administered the second dose. At the same time, 20,31,854 people in the age group of 18-44 took the first dose. With this, 5,51,79,217 and 65,61,851 people aged 45 to 60 took the first and second doses. At the same time, 5,36,74,082 and 1,49,83,217 beneficiaries above 60 years got the first and second doses.

Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh accounted for 66.79 percent of the total doses administered in the country. The ministry reported that 2,46,269 beneficiaries aged 18–44 in the country received their first dose of corona vaccine in a 24-hour interval, and a total of 20,31,854 people in 30 states and union territories received 24-hour intervals. The Ministry stated that 4,05,325 beneficiaries were vaccinated in first 5,685 sessions and 2,84,327 beneficiaries were vaccinated in the second session.

Over 3.66 cases reported in India:

India reported 3,66,161 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,26,62,575, the Union Health Ministry reported on Monday. With 3,754 people succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, the death toll has mounted to 2,46,116. Currently, there are 37,45,237 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.
