The first day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore named Team India. The Bangladeshi team, after winning the toss and batting first, were all out  to just 150 runs. In response, the Indian team scored 86 runs at the loss of one wicket till the end of the first day's play. The team got its first setback as opener Rohit on the second ball of the eighth over. Abu Zayed got Rohit caught by Litton Das and walked out. Indian bowlers once again proved why this team is called the number one Test team in the world.

Due to the great performance of the Indian bowlers, the Bangladeshi team was all out to just 150 runs. Mominul Haq's decision to bat first after winning the toss proved wrong when his three players returned to the pavilion for just 30 runs. The team did not recover until the end. Batting first, none of the batsmen played a big innings for the Bangladesh team and kept returning to the pavilion one after the other. Mushfiqur Rahim scored the highest score of 43 from Bangladesh. Bangladesh's last 5 wickets fell within 10 runs, while their 6 batsmen could not even reach the double figures. At the same time, Mohammed Shami took three wickets and Ishant-Ashwin-Umesh took two wickets from India.

Umesh Yadav delivered the first blow in the sixth over. On the last ball of the over, Umesh got Imrul caught by Rahane. Ishant Sharma also gave a tough blow in the very next over before the visiting team could manage. Ishant caught Shadman Islam (6) off wicketkeeper Ridhiman Saha on the last ball of the seventh over. After falling two wickets, Mohammad Mithun, along with captain Mominul, started the innings and added a few runs, but Shami broke the partnership in the 18th. On the last ball of the over, Shami dismissed Mithun lbw for a score of 13 runs. Ashwin bowled Mominal Haq for 37 and then Mahmudullah for 10 runs. With this, Ashwin equaled Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka in the fastest 250 wickets at home ground. Ashwin surpassed former India captain Anil Kumble (41 Tests) in this case.
