The first match of the 3-match ODI series was played between India and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, in which the host Indian team suffered a major defeat. In this match, Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, the Indian team collapsed by scoring 255 runs in 49.1 overs, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 74 and KL Rahul scoring 47 runs.
