In Mizoram, Joramthanga took the oath of Chief Minister on Saturday. Joramthanga, who was once a dreaded militant, is handling the power of Mizoram for the third time. In his recently concluded assembly elections, his party Mizo National Front defeated Congress in power for ten years in the state. 74-year-old Joramthanga has recently completed his autobiography also. In March 1966, the Lal Manga-led National Mizo Front (NMF) had declared independence from India. The National Mizo Front felt that the government was unable to deal properly with the famine in the state and was inactive. The rebellion of the NMF was the second largest rebellion after Naga protests in the North-East. Despite the violation of human rights, violence and displacement of people from both sides, in 1986, the Mizoram Peace Accord was signed between the government and the MNF and the solution was resolved.
