A student of Aligarh Muslim University lost his right hand due to tear gas shell on Monday. Police were firing tear gas shells during the demonstrations on Sunday night, which burst on the student's hand. Nearly 60 students were injured as violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act took place. Significantly, the stone pelting on security guards posted outside the campus on Sunday night became very violent.
Police on Monday morning registered two FIRs against around 1000 people under IPC sections. Of these, 52 have been identified and 26 people have been arrested. Of these, 7 are university students, while the rest are alumni and locals. All of them were participating in the protests.
All were released on conditional bail late Monday evening. Most of the students injured in the demonstrations were given first aid. However, chemistry department research scholar Nasir lost his hand. Apart from them, three more students have been admitted to the hospital.
'Things under control'
At the same time, many policemen were also injured in the clashes. Aligarh SSP Aakash Kulhari has told that 26 out of 52 students have been arrested for committing violence from the campus. Ax said that FIRs have been lodged against these students for rioting, attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy under sections of IPC. Additional Director General (Agra Zone) Ajay Anand has said that the situation is under control and all steps are being taken to maintain law and order in the city.
