IIT Delhi is all set to Remove 500 Students Out of Campus

This year, IIT Delhi has had to go out of campus for the accommodation of more than 500 students. The hostel seat shortage has also increased with an increase in students this year. IITs have found space through the Oyo Life-Service Provider for better accommodation of their students. Due to lack of hostels, the institute is forced to arrange accommodation for students outside the campus. This year, due to the additional quota of girls and EWS quota on campus, the number of students has increased.

Most of the IIT's MTech and Ph.D. students are staying in these off-campus hostels. This building is in South Delhi around IIT. The undergraduate students are in campus hostels. Students coming from outside in IIT Delhi are also in large numbers. Also, this time the number of girls and seats of EWS quota has also increased. The Institute has 14 hostels but there is a shortage of 600 seats from this year.

IIT Dean – Students Affairs Professor Rajesh Khanna said that with the new session, we have started at a big level. We have arranged for more than 500 students with the help of a service provider. We are not PG, hotels but buildings and are made like hostels. We have taken the building through the service provider and through that these private hostels run. Students have to pay hostel fees like the hostels on campus. This gives extra to IIT. The fees range from Rs 5 thousand to Rs 10 thousand every semester. It depends on the course and hostel facility.

Last year, IIT started it with another service provider Coho but at a smaller level. This time the institute has given this facility to many students. IITs have 14 hostels, including 11 boys. Despite this, there is a shortage of seats. MTech and PhD students of IIT are staying in off-campus hostels. According to an IIT official, there is no more hostel space on the campus of the institute as the campus of Delhi is only on 320 acres. Also, due to the proximity of the airport, tall buildings cannot be built.
