All students studying from IGNOU will have to attend the Term End Examination. IGNOU has made TEE to be held in September and December 2020 mandatory for every student of all courses. Notice in this regard has also been issued on the official website ignou.ac.in.

The University has stated that final year/semester students will appear in the written examination to be held in September as per University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, while for all other students, the examination will be held in December 2020.

Promotions will Not be Granted Without Examination

Members of the Academic Council of IGNOU met on Tuesday to decide in this regard. After looking at all the sides, they have come to the conclusion that every year and semester students have to take the exam to get a promotion in the next year or semester. Due to some technical reasons, the university cannot promote its students without examination. Significantly, lakhs of students studying in intermediate semesters or first/second year were expected to be promoted without exams.

Examinations are Important For These Reasons

A high official of IGNOU has said that there are many technical reasons for being a distance learning university, it is not appropriate to cancel the exam. It is necessary to ensure the reliability of degrees awarded by the university. We have many students who study here. A 3-year degree can be granted for up to 6 years to complete. In such a situation, it will not be appropriate for the students to compromise the quality by cancelling the examination.

Term End Exams Held Twice

The second reason is that admissions are taken twice a year at the university. – January and July. Term-end exams are also held twice a year – June and December. If an examination is not done properly, then the chance of appearing in the next examination is also given. The January exam has been done this year. Now if the June exam is cancelled, then the students of January may join in June and try to take advantage of it wrongly.
