The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday released the latest test rankings. The New Zealand cricket team ended the year in a very memorable way as the team has finally reached the top of the ICC Test rankings for the first time by winning the first match of the two-Test series against Pakistan.
After a clean sweeping West Indies, the New Zealand team, which came close to the first position in the ICC rankings, has captured the top position before the end of the year.
New Zealand tops the table for the first time:
After winning against Pakistan, New Zealand climbed to the top of the table with 117 points for the first time. Both New Zealand and Australia were jointly at number one with equal points before the first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan. With this, Australia has slipped to second place with 116 points while the Indian team is at number three with 115 points, followed by England’s team with 106 points and Sri Lanka’s team at number five with 91 points.
New Zealand took 1-0 lead in the 4-match Test series:
In the first match of the two-match Test series against Pakistan, the hosts New Zealand won by 101 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series at the Bay Oval on Wednesday. On the fifth day, the entire team of Pakistan was all out for 271 runs after chasing a target of 372 runs in the second innings.
On the last day of the match, Pakistan started the game at 71 runs for 3 wickets. Fawad Alam scored a century in Tests after 11 years but was dismissed by Neil Wagner later. Fawad was out after scoring 102 runs off 269 balls.
