I Go to Delhi Only When it is Necessary: Mamta Banerjee

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The two last met on May 25, 2018, at the convocation of Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan. Mamta Banerjee is considered to be a staunch opponent of the central government and PM Modi.

This protest had reached the peak in the Lok Sabha elections. Mamta refused to accept Modi as PM. She did not even attend his swearing-in ceremony. At the same time, the BJP has targeted Mamata for meeting the PM.BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that she is meeting the PM to save Rajiv Kumar, former Kolkata Police Commissioner. If she does not do so, half the state ministers will be in jail in the Saradha chit fund scam.

Mukul Roy said that Mamta going to meet Modi is like a victory for BJP. However, Mamata Banerjee described it as a courtesy call. She says she will talk about the interests of Bengal during her meeting with the PM.

It includes issues like renaming the state, merger of banks, Air India, BSNL. Mamta has made it clear that she rarely goes to Delhi. Said- I just go there with administrative issues. Significantly, the central government refused to approve the state government's proposal to rename West Bengal to Bangla. The Center did not approve the proposal, stating that the move would require a constitutional amendment. After this, Mamta wrote a letter to the PM on this issue in July and asked him to take action on it soon.
