The Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju has expressed the possibility that the sporting activities in the country will resume from September-October.  Let us tell you that the sporting events in India have been on a standstill since mid-March due to the corona epidemic. Rijiju has said that he is hopeful that India will be able to organize sports competitions in a phased manner from September-October and this will help in boosting people's confidence amidst the COVID-19 epidemic. Let us tell you that the Sports Ministry had restored the training camps for some Olympic events in the last week of May and Rijiju said that tournaments would also start being held gradually in the near future.

Government has allowed some sporting activities with certain restrictions:

Addressing the global Forum of Commonwealth countries on Thursday, Rijiju said, 'The government has allowed some sporting activities with certain restrictions while following strict SOP, the guidelines that must be followed by every sporting organization. I am happy to inform that recently the training of our elite and athletes who have qualified for the Olympics in special camps has started.'

Rijiju shared the blueprint for the resumption of India's sporting activities:

In this address, Rijiju also shared the blueprint for the resumption of India's sporting activities after the COVID-19 outbreak. He said, 'I have also spoken to the Sports Ministers and National Sports Federations of all the State and Union Territories and asked them to start some sports competitions gradually. We need to increase people's confidence. I hope that India will be able to organize sports tournaments from September or October, even big leagues of various sports are considering restoration.'

He further said, 'We have seen participation from thousands of athletes of various levels and coaches who have been hugely benefitted by these knowledge enhancement programmes.'
