India's star tennis player Sania Mirza entered the semi-finals of the women's doubles in the Hobart International tournament. The 33-year-old Sania performed strongly in the quarter-final match with her Ukrainian partner Nadia Kithenok. Now in the semi-finals, the fifth seeded Sania will face Slovenian-Czech duo Tamara Zidansek and Mary Bouzkova.

On Thursday, the Indo-Ukrainian (Sania-Nadia) duo defeated the American pair of Vania King and Christina McHale 6–2, 4–6, 10–4. At one time, this match was at 1–1, but Sania and Nadia duo won the tie-break. The Sania-Nadia duo had earlier made it to the quarter-finals by defeating Georgia's Okasana Kalashnikova and Japan's Miyu Kato.

Sania has returned to the court after almost two years from this tournament. She last participated in the China Open in October 2017. Sania, a former No.1 in doubles and six-time Grand Slam winner, quit playing tennis in 2013. She had to suffer an injury before taking a formal break to become a mother.
