Students can now get rid of the entrance test to get admission in PG (MD & MS) courses in medical. The Health Ministry has recommended scrapping the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission in PG courses of medical in its proposed bill. If this happens then it will be a great relief for the students.
According to the report, these proposals have been included in the bill based on the instructions of the Prime Minister's Office. This proposal has been included in the revised draft of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill. Now it will soon be sent to the cabinet for approval.
According to the amendments made in the new NMC Bill, the result of the National Exit Test for admission in PG programs of Medical will be laid out, which will be organized in the country as a similar test. After this, the candidates will not be included in separate exams for admission in PG courses after passing the final examination of MBBS. Candidates will not be included in the separate examination after MBBS for practice license.
However, for the admission in PG to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), candidates must take their separate examinations. At the same time, the National level examination and super specialty will be continued for admission in DM and MCH courses.
The NMC Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December 2017. But the Bill also ended with the end of the 16th Lok Sabha term.
Every year about 80 thousand students enroll in MBBS courses in various medical colleges in the country. While about 1.5 lakh candidates are eligible for the 50,000 seats of Medical PG in various Medical Colleges of the country.
