Former PM Manmohan Singh's daughter Daman Singh has opposed the media's reaction towards her father undergoing treatment. In a statement given to The Telegraph, Daman Singh said that my parents are trying to face a difficult situation. They are elderly people, Not Zoo animals.
Actually, Manmohan Singh is undergoing medical treatment at AIIMS, Delhi. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had reached the hospital to inquire about his condition. Mandaviya shared pictures of this meeting on social media. At the same time, some videos were shown on news channels. However, in those videos, Manmohan Singh is seen lying on the bed. And at the same time, his wife Gursharan Kaur is standing beside him.
Daman said, "My father is undergoing treatment for dengue at AIIMS. His condition is stable, but his immunity is low. We refused to meet our relatives because of the risk of infection. we are glad that the Health minister came to meet my father. However, my parents were not in a position to be photographed or meet anyone at that time. My mother insisted that the photographer should leave the room, but they were completely ignored. She was very upset about it. "
On this matter, the doctors said that maintaining the privacy of patients is morality. And this is being taught during medical education. It is the responsibility of doctors and hospitals to protect the confidentiality of the patient. The Forum for Medical Ethics Society (FMES) member said it was a violation of ethics if the former prime minister's photograph was taken without the consent of his family.
People gave a strong reaction to the pictures shared by the Union Minister. Users tweeted and said that this was done to get media headlines. This is condemnable. Seeing such outrage, Mandaviya deleted the pictures. It is not yet clear how the doctors and AIIMS management allowed the photographer to come inside. What is even more shocking is that Guleria, the Director of AIIMS, was himself present there.
