Director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, who made super hit films like 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', was born on 7 July 1963 in Delhi. Rakesh's father was an employee in a hotel in New Delhi. He did his schooling at Air Force Bal Bharti School, Delhi. Rakesh Mehra's name may be one of the big directors today, but there was a time when he wanted to win medals in sports for the country. In the year 1982, preparations were going on for the Asian Games in Delhi.

At that time, India was hosting the Asian Games for the first time. Rakesh Mehra had come to participate in swimming at the age of 19 but he could not be selected in the final round. Rakesh Mehra has always been very creative. He was sad that he could not win a medal for the country, but even after that, he wanted to do something big.

Rakesh was associated with the advertising industry

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra made his way to the advertising industry. Mehra joined an ad company in the year 1986 and at that time he made lakhs of ad films for that ad company. Rakesh, who had made many ads, wanted to do something else. During this, he met megastar Amitabh Bachchan during an advertisement. Just then what was the director who made the film 'Aks' in the year 2001 with Big B.

This was Rakesh Om's first film as a director. The film 'Aks' did not show much performance at the box office but Rakesh Omprakash Mehra got recognition from the film. On the other hand, Amitabh's performance was also highly appreciated.

Rakesh Mehra got real recognition from the film 'Rang De Basanti'. Aamir Khan starrer this film broke many records at the box office. He also received Filmfare and National Award for this film. The character of Milkha Singh is played by actor Farhan Akhtar in the film.

Rakesh Mehra himself has directed almost all his films and has also been their producer. Along with this, the story of the films Rang De Basanti, Delhi 6, and Aks was written by Omprakash himself. These days the director is busy preparing for his upcoming film 'Toofan'. Toofan is a sports drama film produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, and Farhan Akhtar. The film 'Toofan' will premiere simultaneously on Amazon Prime Video from July 16, 2021, in 240 countries and territories.
