Today is the birthday of Hindi cinema's iconic villain Prem Chopra. His presence in the earlier films was proof that there must be some wrongdoing with the heroine. When he used to say 'Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra', the air of good would get spoiled. He touched the heights of success by playing the role of Villain in the Hindi cinema world. He has given more than 250 rape scenes in his career.
Today Prem Chopra is celebrating his 86th birthday. Prem Chopra was born on 23 September 1935 in Lahore. After partition, His family shifted to Shimla. He spent his childhood in Shimla itself. He had his early education there. His father wanted to make him an officer but he got popular by filming rape scenes.
He made his film debut in 1960 with the film 'Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh'. The film did not show anything amazing at the box office, after which Prem Chopra turned to Punjabi films. His main films include 'Hum Hindustani', 'Woh Kaun Thi?', 'Shaheed', 'Mera Saaya', 'Prem Pujari', 'Purab Aur Paschim', 'Kati Patang', 'Do Anjaane', 'Kala Sona'. ', 'Dostana', 'Kranti', 'Jaanwar', 'Phool Bane Angare', 'Mehbooba' among others.
Although Prem Chopra filmed many rape scenes, due to one scene, he had to face the anger of the heroine. Actually, in one scene, Prem Chopra had to come from behind and nab the heroine. He did the same according to the demand, but due to some reason, the heroine was not able to give the right expression. The coercive reaction that the director wanted was not framed in that scene. Many retakes had to be given for the scene but still, the scene could not be shot properly.
The scene was finally shot but the heroine complained to the director about Prem Chopra. Before he could understand anything, a slapping scene had to be shot, which would have killed the heroine. As soon as the shoot started, the heroine slapped him so hard that everyone panicked and there was silence on the shooting set.
Once Prem Chopra had said about the role of villain, if I could not become a hero, then luck made me a villain. I am happy that the role of villain used to be very important in making films hit during that era and people remember your dialogues for years and years.
