Many sporting events around the world were either canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic. But now, many sporting tournaments are resuming. On the other hand, Grandmaster Vidit Santosh Gujrati will lead the Indian team that will participate in the Online Chess Olympiad 2020. The tournament starts in the last week of this month.

Vidit Santosh Gujrati will lead the Indian side:

India's second-ranked player was made the captain of the team after consulting with former world champion and country's top player Vishwanathan Anand and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) selection committee. He has expressed hope that this decision will not cause any trouble to anyone.

PR Venkatarama Raja and honorary secretary Vijay Deshpande are the chairman of the selection committee of AICF. Let us tell you that AICF selected Vidit Gujarati to lead the Indian team in the Online Chess Olympiad 2020.

AICF President PR Venkatarama Raja took this decision after consulting Vishwanathan Anand and the selection committee. The team also includes P Harikrishna and National Champion Arvind, World Rapid Champion Koneru Hampi, D Harika and young player R. Praggnanandhaa. Men's, Women's, Men's Junior and Women's Junior teams have been formed for this event.

Vidit Gujrati is also a strong candidate for Arjuna Award:

Vidit Gujrathi is the fastest rising Indian player on the international scene. Ranked 23rd in the classical format in the world, he is India No 2 after Viswanathan Anand and a strong candidate for Arjuna Award considering performance over the last year or so.

Indian men's team: Vishwanathan Anand, Vidit Santosh Gujarati (Captain), P Harikrishna and Arvind (Reserve)

Women's Team: Koneru Hampi, Dronavalli Harika, Bhakti Kulkarni and R Vaishali (Reserve)

Junior Boys: Nihal Sarin, R. Praggnanandhaa (Reserve)

Junior girls: Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal (Reserve).
