Unnao Rape Case Victim’s Life at Risk

The state government has also been instructed to make the court aware of the steps taken to protect the life and freedom of the victim and her family.

The CBI has told the court that the life of the victim of the rape case is in danger. The CBI has said that under witness protection, the victim and her family are in danger of 'A category'. Sufficient protection should be provided to the victim and her family. After this, the court on Wednesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a report on possible steps to be taken in connection with sending Unnao rape victim and her family to AIIMS to a safe place or to neighboring state.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma asked the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh to file a report within a week and tell him about the steps to be taken to send the rape victim, her mother, two sisters and brother to a safe place. The victim accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for the rape. The victim was admitted to AIIMS after being seriously injured in an accident on 28 July. Her mother is still with  her in Delhi, along with sister and brother.

The state government has also been instructed to make the court aware of the steps taken to protect the life and freedom of the victim and her family. The court will now hear the rape case on 24 September. In another case related to this, the court refused to instruct the CBI to initiate an inquiry against the doctors treating the father of the Unnao victim, saying that it is the prerogative of the CBI to run the case.

These doctors treated the victim's father when he was in judicial custody and was injured. Judge Dharmash Sharma was hearing a petition filed by the victim's lawyer. However, the court said that if the facts about the role of any doctors in the entire development came to light during the hearing, appropriate orders would be issued.

Senior Public Prosecutor Ashok Bharatendu opposed the petition, saying that so far there was nothing in front of the court to call the doctors as accused in their investigation. In the petition filed by advocate Dharmendra Mishra, it was alleged that at the behest of Sanger, the doctors of the district hospital did not deliberately test the victim's father. The father of the Unnao victim was arrested on 3 April 2018 and died in judicial custody on 9 April 2018.
