According to the new provisions, women living apart from their husbands due to family disputes, estrangement and domestic violence, who are not divorced, are equal to the caste of the woman and her husband. Also, legally divorced women, whose husband and the woman are of the same caste will be able to issue a caste certificate in the name of their mother to the children of such women.
Caste certificates have been made on the basis of the father's caste till now. But the exemption will be given in the cases of searched, widowed and abandoned. According to the circular, now in the case of children of widows and abandoned women. A provision has been made to make caste certificates on the basis of the caste of the mother. A caste certificate is necessary for taking advantage of government schemes, taking scholarships and applying for government jobs.
