The Supreme Court will hear today in the case of felling of trees in Aarey Colony, Mumbai. Taking the letter written in protest against the cutting of trees by students studying law, the Apex court has also constituted a Special bench for hearing. The students had written a letter to Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi seeking immediate intervention in the case.

The petitions challenging the decision to cut trees to build a metro car shed in Aarey Colony were rejected by the Bombay High Court. According to reports, 450 trees were cut by the electric machine by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) within two hours after nine o'clock at night after the High Court's decision came on Friday. Reports said that within 24 hours from Friday, around 2134 pedigrees of the colony have been cut.

The Maharashtra government's move is being strongly opposed across the country, including Mumbai. It is said that MMRCL had sent a team of 70 people to carry out the action of cutting 2,646 trees for the construction of Metro car shed, which people started opposing. Amid the protests, section 144 was imposed in the colony and its surrounding areas on Saturday morning and 29 people were arrested.

Assembly elections are being held in Maharashtra, in this case the issue has come to the center of the state's politics. The entire opposition, including the Shiv Sena, is trying to put the BJP in the dock. At the same time, the government is not coming out openly in view of the people's opposition. At present, the atmosphere is hot about the felling of trees, people are opposing this action. At the same time, political parties have got a chance to shine their politics.
