CBI Opposes P. Chidambaram’s Bail Plea

The CBI has opposed the bail plea of former Union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram. Chidambaram's bail plea was heard in the Delhi High Court on Friday. CBI has opposed the bail plea while filing the reply in the court. The next hearing of the case will be on 23 September.

In the court, the CBI told the court that if former Union Minister Chidambaram was granted bail, it would send a wrong message in the society. The investigating agency said that there are serious allegations against Chidambaram. In fact, the court had sought a response from CBI on Chidambaram's bail plea.

The former finance minister, arrested in the INX Media case, moved the Delhi High Court on September 11 for his bail. Chidambaram has also challenged the CBI court order of 14 days judicial custody in the INX Media case. The case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Chidambaram is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in judicial custody.

Chidambaram has alleged that the INX Media case is motivated by political vendetta and the investigating agency is acting at the behest of the Center. In his application filed before the Delhi High Court, Chidambaram said, "Immediate criminal action in this case is a malicious case, born out of political vendetta." The investigating agency is acting at the behest of the Center, which seeks to tarnish the impeccable image of the petitioner.
