Google to replace Android Auto for phones with Google Assistant in the new update: Google will stop the 'Android Auto for Phone Screens' app from Android version 12. Google says that car owners should instead use the Google Assistant driving mode. Which is available within the Google Maps app. Or use the native Android Auto interface available on cars that support it. However, Google has also assured us that this will not change the experience of anyone using Android Auto while driving the car.  Google says that this will help in exploring the interface for driving in Android phones.

Use the Android Auto-Mobile App

Google has issued a statement saying, "People who use the Android Automobile app on the phone will be moved to Google Assistant driving mode. On versions starting with Android 12, Google Assistant driving mode Will already be available on mobile. We don't have any more details to share at this time."

Google's announcement to replace Android Auto with Google Assistant comes after reports. Some users were seeing a message in the 'Android Auto for phone screen' app. The message said that the service is "now only available for car screens" and pointed to Google Assistant driving mode as a replacement for phone users. There have also been reports. The 'Android Auto for Phone Screens' app is not supported on Pixel devices running Android 12.

Android Auto as a system-level feature

Google Assistant driving mode was first announced in 2019 but started rolling out late last year. Google then decided to give most of the features of Android Auto as a system-level feature in Android 10 and discontinued the first downloadable app.

The new app is likely to update automatically on cars that come with the Android Auto app pre-installed. However, for people using older cars that don't have the built-in Android Auto app, they won't be able to use the driving-friendly interface available directly on their phones after the update. According to the report, Google wanted to give these users a new Google Assistant driving mode.
