Good Signs for Restaurants: Trend of Eating Out Increased Due to Decrease of Corona

The trend of eating out has increased after the impact of Corona reduced, vaccination accelerated, and restrictions on restaurants, hotels, food outlets were lifted in most parts of the country. According to the restaurant and hotel industry, there has been a 30 to 35% increase in the number of restaurant eaters in the first fortnight of July and August as compared to June.

Industry people say that eating out will increase further over time and may soon reach the pre-Covid level. Sales of Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) have already reached the pre-Covid level.

17.92% up in the QSR category

According to Anurag Katiyar, President of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), eating out is again increasing across the country after Covid. The restaurant business has registered a growth of 28.82%, while the QSR category has registered a growth of 17.92%. According to the Retail Association of India's Business Survey Round 18, July sales in QSR had recovered to 97% of pre-Covid levels.

Vaccination returned the confidence of the customers

According to Sudhir Oberoi, former president of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), more vaccinations have brought back the confidence of not only the customers but also the restaurant operators. Restaurant operators have started recalling their employees. Malls have also opened up due to which the footfall in their food courts has increased significantly. Due to the low base, there is an increase of up to 100% in fine dining. According to FHRAI, the business of the restaurant has crossed the level of 75% as compared to January 2021. This is likely to increase further in the coming months.

NRAI Vice President Kabir Suri said that good times are returning for the restaurant industry, which has been facing trouble for a long time and lakhs of employees associated with it. The percentage of eating out will increase further during the festive season, which will help the industry in recovery.

30-40% reduction in home delivery

With the increase in eating out, the trend of food delivery has decreased. At the time of the lockdown, 80% of the restaurants whose business was dependent on home delivery have now come down to 30%-40%. According to Anurag Katiyar, the home delivery business has declined by 7% in the last month. Home delivery is recorded at less than 45% in many cities.
