Former Indian Cricketer GS Lakshmi to Become First Woman Referee in Men’s ODI

Former Indian cricketer GS Lakshmi will become the first female match referee in the Men's One-Day in the opening match of the third series of World Cup League on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates. Laxmi will be seen as referee in the match between the United Arab Emirates and the United States at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The goal of this tournament is to provide development opportunities for the officials. The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 started in August this year and will run till January 2022. During this, a total of 126 matches will be played in it.

Its top three teams will play in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2022. Based on this, the ICC qualifier team is to be selected for the World Cup to be played in India in 2023. This is Lakshmi's second major achievement this year, before she became the first woman to be appointed to the ICC international panel of match referees in May. At that time she said,  "It is a great honor for me to be selected by the ICC in the international panel, because it will open new opportunities for me".

She said, I have had a long career as a cricketer and match referee in India. I hope to use my experience well internationally as a player and match official. I hope that I will show my full potential and try to live up to my responsibilities.
